Did you know that some children in Virginia may qualify for free or very low cost health insurance?
The Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS) program is Virginia’s health insurance program for children and pregnant women. Local help is available to assist you in applying. Children whose families meet certain guidelines up to age 19 may qualify. There is also a program for Pregnant Women with similar criteria.
Some families may not realize they qualify. For instance, a family of four can make up to $41,300 per year and still have their children qualify for FAMIS. Talk to someone today about whether children or pregnant women in your household may qualify! There is no Monthly Premium, and most services would be $5 or less with FAMIS. For some families, FAMIS is completely free. Services Include: Doctor, Hospital and Emergency visits, Well child check-ups and shots, Dental and Vision care and more!
For more information on FAMIS or the FAMIS Moms Program, contact Project Connect at the Consortium for Infant and Child Health at EVMS: 668-6447 or CINCH@evms.edu, check out www.famis.org or call your local department of social services.
